It is located in the municipality of Agios Vasilios in the Rethymno regional unit, not far from the Moni Preveli monastery, whose name has passed on to it.

The other two options involve either 470 steep steps from the parking lot or a hike and wade across a river—appropriate footwear is advisable either way.
